The Omics IT and Data Management Core Facility (ODCF) offers management and standardized processing for NGS-based and other omics data. It currently manages Petabytes of data from internal programs (e.g. the Heidelberg Centre for Personalized Oncology – DKFZ-HIPO), national collaborations (e.g. the German Cancer
Consortium (DKTK), the German ICGC projects) and international projects (e.g. ICGC PCAWG). The ODCF also supports its customers with data submissions to public repositories like EGA and data transfers to or from collaboration partners. In addition, it participates in the setup and maintenance of the de.NBI cloud which is part of ELIXIR.
The DKFZ Junior Research Group Bioinformatics and Omics Data Analytics headed by Dr. Matthias Schlesner (Schlesner Group) focuses on the integrative analysis of large-scale biomedical data and the development of computational methods for the analysis and integration of omics data. The group is responsible for bioinformatics analyses in a plethora of national and international collaborative projects.
The Omics IT and Data Management Core Facility (ODCF) will be involved in standardized processing of sequencing data and provide high quality variant calls as well as bioinformatics expertise. In addition, it will handle data management and data transfers between different EASI-Genomics partners and customers.
Technical equipment and infrastructure
The ODCF operates a high-performance computing infrastructure for storage and analysis of omics data in life science. This infrastructure consists of compute clusters with more than 3000 compute cores and 17 Terabyte RAM and large-scale data facilities exceeding 15 Petabytes of disk space. This infrastructure will be provided to the consortium for data analysis.
